About Our Craft

The Four Steps of Kimono Remaking

At Tsukimi, every creation begins with respect for the kimono’s history and ends with a new life as modern fashion. Our process is rooted in tradition yet designed for timeless elegance.

①Washing and Preparing the Kimono

Each kimono begins its new journey with a traditional washing process called araihari. The garment is carefully taken apart, cleaned, and restored to its original fabric state, ensuring purity and freshness.

③ Tailoring and Remaking

Skilled artisans cut, sew, and remake the fabric into a new garment. This step blends Japanese craftsmanship with modern tailoring, bringing forth a one-of-a-kind piece.

② Designing from the Fabric

With the kimono returned to fabric, our designers envision modern pieces that honor tradition while embracing contemporary style. Each design is inspired by the unique patterns, textures, and stories woven into the material.

④ Packaging the Finished Piece

Once complete, each garment is carefully inspected, pressed, and wrapped with the same respect it was created. The final touch ensures that your piece arrives as beautifully as it was crafted.
